Legislative Leaders Call on AG (Morrison) to Re-instate Tiller Case
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Three legislative leaders want the attorney general to reinstate criminal charges against a Wichita abortion provider.
House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, Majority Leader Ray Merrick and Speaker Pro Tem Don Dahl sent a letter to Attorney General Paul Morrison. They say his failure to prosecute Doctor George Tiller undermines public confidence in the rule of law.
Morrison is an abortion-rights Democrat who defeated Republican Attorney General Phill Kline in the November general election.
Kline filed 30 misdemeanor criminal charges against Tiller, accusing him of violating restrictions in Kansas law on late-term abortions.
A judge dismissed the charges over a jurisdictional issue.
Morrison says he will soon make an announcement about the case.
